Hey, everyone! Today is the official start of Black History Month. So, I thought it was only appropriate that I spotlight the history and importance of this special month! Make sure to like and share!
Black History Month, also known as African-American History Month, originated from
”Negro History Week.” The purpose of Black History Month is to uplift the many accomplishments that African-Americans have made. The United States in 1976 officially recognized February as Black History Month and now numerous of other countries have established a month for Black History. This month is not only essential for the African-American community, but it is also important for highlighting and educating everyone about key contributions of African-Americans. Some notable contributions are: the three-light traffic light (Garret Morgan), and a more improved ironing board (Sarah Boone).
