My own personal guide;)
Source: Pinterest
I am a planner, I love thinking ahead and being prepared so I always begin planning my outfits ahead of time. Even if this simply means I am visualizing the entire look in my mind and have no idea how it will look outside my mind. It is a small step that is laying down the foundation for my entire look.
Many of us fall into the trap of waiting until the last minute to select a look for our upcoming event and end up wearing the same go-to dress that we wore at the last event. That is so boring and everyone can tell when we repeat the same look two times in a row despite what we're telling ourselves.
To avoid this embarrassment and stress I have a three-step guide that I follow for every look I create no matter the occasion. I use this guide to plan: vacation looks, party looks, birthday looks, and just overall any event in my life.
1.) What Is The Vibe/ Tone Of The Event?
This is one of the most crucial steps in selecting a look. What will the vibe be? Will guests be more dressed up or toned down? What will the weather be like that day? Is there a theme that I should be aware of? All of these questions should come to mind when deciding your initial look because they will dictate which direction you will go. I recommend finding out as much information as you can before you purchase anything to avoid confusion or embarrassment.
I will use a random scenario to explain this step.
"My best friend is having a rodeo-themed birthday party this weekend and I have no idea what to wear"
The very first thing I would do in this scenario is ask my best friend where the party will be held and how will the crowd be. If the party will be held outdoors I might plan for my outfit to be cold/ hot weather friendly. If the party is with family and friends I might consider wearing a less revealing outfit especially if my best friend invited her grandmother to the party.
2.) Research For Inspiration
I cannot stress this enough but researching is very important and crucial. I will use the scenario I previously used to explain.
"My best friend is having a rodeo-themed birthday party this weekend and I have no idea what to wear"
The rodeo-themed birthday party will be held indoors and for friends only. Now that I have the answers to my most important questions, I can now begin researching for inspiration!
I usually look on Pinterest for inspiration and take screenshots to save on my phone for later.
Sometimes I make vision boards on Canva of an outfit I am visualizing in my head. I include the main outfit, hair, and accessories in this vision board.
Here are some examples of what I would wear to this rodeo-themed birthday party using the vision board from Canva.

3.) Order The Outfit/ Book The Appointments
After doing all of this, you should be more than prepared with your look. The last step to do is to order the outfit and book any necessary appointments such as hair, nails, or lashes. The key part of doing this is to do it ahead of time. Shipping is always tricky so try to order two weeks ahead of time or use express shipping. Most stylists that do hair, nails, or lashes require you to book at the start of the month so keep up with those dates so you aren't scrambling to find an appointment.
