Surviving The Holiday Blues: How To Transition Back Home For The Holidays

The Best Time Of The Year?

Happy Holidays Lovelies!

In this week's blog post, we will discuss how to survive the holiday blues and how to transition home for the holidays. In typical student fashion, it is very common for students to feel out of place during winter break while transitioning home for the holidays. Without the pressure from their academic lives, some students often feel lost. I am a victim of this feeling. In this blog post, we will talk about some activities to do to make your winter break feel more fulfilling, and how to get out of a winter break funk!

"You Do Not Find The Happy Life. You Make it."

-Thomas S. Monson

Students all around the world view winter break differently, some students view winter break as a time to recharge while other students take the time to prepare for the next semester. What about the students who don't view winter break in either of these ways though? Since I started my college career, my perception of winter break has shifted. My college life always seems to be busy so when I come home for a break and have nothing to do, I am always at a loss. Of course, I love spending time with my family and catching up with my friends. I just don't know what to do between the time before and after the holidays.

I have come to learn though that I am not alone in these feelings. After talking with my close friends, I have learned that these feelings are very common. Instead of continuing to wallow in these feelings this winter break though, I was determined to come up with innovative ways to combat these feelings instead.

Here are 5 Ways That Have Helped Me Overcome The Holiday Blues This Winter Break!

1.) SCHEDULE, SCHEDULE, SCHEDULE

Having something to look forward to always helps me when I catch a case of the winter blues! Some activities that you could plan for yourself are planning a Christmas night with your best friends or family members, planning a lunch date, or even planning a solo date with yourself!

2.) Get A Job

Getting a job may not be the most fun way to spend your time during break but it does give you something to do and you're making money at the same time!

3.) Start Applying & Researching Summer

This is the perfect time to start applying and researching for summer internships. Now that you have free time, you can focus on your applications and maximize your chances. Use this time to update your resume as well!

4.) Indulge In Self-Care

Use this time to focus on yourself and prepare for next semester. This is the perfect time to update your skincare routine or try a new hobby! Just devote some time to yourself this break so you can feel like your best self!

5.) Take A Class

Taking a class during winter break is another great way to spend winter break if you are looking for something to do. You can get ahead of your classes and you are being productive as well.
